Woodys Eyewear
Colourful Barcelona Eyewear with a Bold, Contemporary Point of View
Some eyewear is designed to disappear.
Woodys definitely isn't.
Known for expressive colour, interesting material combinations, and contemporary shapes, Woodys brings a distinctly playful energy to independent eyewear.
Based near Barcelona, Spain, the collection has evolved considerably since its beginnings, but one idea has remained consistent: eyewear should have personality.
At Blink Eyewear in Collingwood, Woodys gives us another way to introduce colour and individuality into our carefully curated selection of independent eyewear.
It's fun.
It's modern.
It's expressive.
And sometimes that's exactly what a pair of glasses should be.
The Story Behind Woodys
Woodys has one of the more unexpected origin stories in eyewear.
Founder Josep Dosta was passionate about wakeskating, a water sport that uses a board to ride the wake behind a boat.
There was just one recurring problem.
His glasses kept ending up at the bottom of the lake.
That sparked an idea.
What if he could create glasses that would float?
Josep began experimenting with the laminated wood used in wakeskate boards, eventually creating eyewear from recycled boards.
In 2013, Woodys officially launched its first collection, featuring frames made from natural bamboo, recycled boards, and birch.
It was unconventional.
Colourful.
A little rebellious.
And very different from what much of the eyewear market looked like at the time.
But Woodys didn't stay still.
As the collection developed, the company gradually moved beyond wood and began exploring acetate, metal, and more sophisticated construction.
The materials changed.
The personality remained.
What Makes Woodys Different?
Colour is an important part of the Woodys design language.
But that doesn't necessarily mean every frame is loud.
Sometimes colour appears in layers.
Sometimes it's concentrated along the brow or temple.
Sometimes it's a subtle contrast that only becomes obvious when the frame is viewed from the side.
And sometimes, yes, the colour is the entire point.
That's what makes the collection fun to work with.
There's room for someone who wants a genuinely expressive pair of glasses, but there are also designs for someone who simply wants a little more personality than they'll find in conventional eyewear.
Woodys gives us plenty to play with.
From Wood to Contemporary Eyewear
Despite the name, today's Woodys collection isn't defined by wooden glasses.
In 2017, the company began an important evolution away from its original wooden frames, introducing acetate and metal into the collection.
That shift gave the designers considerably more freedom to explore colour, shape, texture, and construction.
And that's really where the Woodys we know today began to emerge.
The current collection is contemporary and fashion-forward, with an emphasis on expressive shapes, interesting colour combinations, and details that make even relatively classic silhouettes feel a little less expected.
There's usually something that catches your eye.
A flash of colour.
An interesting temple.
A layered acetate.
A surprising combination of materials.
Woodys understands that sometimes a small detail is enough to completely change the personality of a frame.
Designed in Barcelona
Woodys is headquartered in Vic, in the Barcelona region of Spain, and that contemporary Spanish design influence is an important part of the collection's identity.
There's an energy to the frames.
Colour is embraced rather than avoided.
Shapes can be playful.
Materials are mixed.
Classic eyewear references are often given a more contemporary treatment.
The result is a collection that feels youthful without necessarily being young.
Because colourful eyewear doesn't have an age.
Neither does interesting design.
It's simply about finding the right frame for the person wearing it.
Eyewear with Personality
One of the things we enjoy about Woodys is that the collection doesn't take itself too seriously.
There can be a tendency in designer eyewear to make everything sound terribly important.
Sometimes glasses can simply be fun.
A great colour can make someone's eyes look incredible.
An unexpected shape can completely change a face.
A frame someone would never have chosen for themselves can become the one they can't stop looking at in the mirror.
That's part of what makes selecting eyewear so enjoyable.
Woodys gives us another collection to reach for when someone is ready to experiment a little.
Who Is Woodys For?
Who Is Woodys For?
Woodys is for someone who wants a little personality in their eyewear.
You may find yourself drawn to the collection if you:
enjoy colour and interesting combinations
appreciate contemporary European design
want something different from conventional eyewear
like playful details without sacrificing wearability
enjoy modern interpretations of familiar shapes
want your glasses to feel like part of your personal style
You don't necessarily need to consider yourself a "colourful glasses person."
Sometimes one unexpected detail is all it takes.
The Blink Perspective
Every collection at Blink brings something different to the room.
Woodys brings energy.
It's a collection we can turn to when a patient wants colour, personality, or simply something that feels a little less predictable.
And that's important within a carefully curated eyewear selection.
Not every frame needs to be an architectural masterpiece.
Not every collection needs to be incredibly serious.
Sometimes someone sits down and says:
"I just want something fun."
Woodys gives us plenty of answers.
The shapes are approachable.
The colours make things interesting.
And there are enough different personalities within the collection that we can move from relatively understated to wonderfully expressive.
For us, Woodys is another tool in the toolbox.
A colourful one.
